Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, India
AECS Research Global (ARG) was selected to provide comprehensive Techno-Environmental Consultancy and Project Management services for this critical INR 105 Crore water infrastructure project. Tasked with alleviating water scarcity in Cuddalore, ARG managed the end-to-end development of a high-capacity 10 MLD Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Desalination Plant. By integrating cutting-edge energy recovery technology with rigorous pre-treatment protocols, we delivered a sustainable and efficient potable water solution for the region.
Techno-Environmental Strategy and Design The establishment of the Phase-II Desalination Plant required a delicate balance between industrial efficiency and environmental stewardship. ARG initiated the project by delivering high-level Techno-Environmental Consultancy Services and preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Our approach focused on designing a system that ensures water security while minimizing energy consumption.
The core of our design features a sophisticated SWRO (Sea Water Reverse Osmosis) system capable of treating 10 Million Liters Per Day (MLD). To optimize operational costs and sustainability, we engineered the inclusion of state-of-the-art Energy Recovering Equipment (PX300) with a capacity of 284 m³/hr. This technology significantly reduces the energy footprint of the high-pressure reverse osmosis process, aligning the project with global standards for sustainable desalination.
Robust Process Engineering and Pre-Treatment Understanding that the longevity of desalination membranes depends on water quality, ARG designed a multi-stage, rigorous pre-treatment infrastructure. The system includes:
Flocculation & Sedimentation Systems: Four units with a capacity of 330 m³/hr each to effectively remove suspended solids.
Gravity Sand Filters: Three high-capacity units (440 m³/hr each) for primary filtration.
Pressure Sand Filters: Sixteen precision units (94 m³/hr each) to ensure the feed water meets the stringent Silt Density Index (SDI) requirements before entering the RO membranes.
Project Management and Execution Oversight Beyond the design board, ARG served as the Project Management Consultant (PMC), bridging the gap between technical planning and on-site reality. We provided Government Advisory and Strategic Cost Advisory to manage the INR 105 Crore budget effectively. During the construction phase, our teams executed strict Supervision & Quality Control, ensuring that every component—from the intake structures to the distribution network—was installed and commissioned to the highest engineering standards. This holistic management ensured the timely delivery of a vital public utility asset.
